Hello Parents and Students,

First, a reminder that tomorrow is a professional development day and school will not be in session.

Parents, I am asking students to bring small, cheap earbuds to school as soon as possible. When we use technology in the class (projects, IXL, etc.) earbuds can be a very useful tool… thanks!

Today we continued to get a start using IXL. Starting next week IXL will mostly be an at-home program. Parents, I suggest getting into a routine at home to utilize this wonderful math program… thanks!

Today we also touched-base again about the PowerPlay Young Entrepreneurs project. Next week we will official begin the unit. Parents, please read over the letter and package that came home with students on Tuesday. Thanks!

Finally, a word from Mr. Streat regarding social studies…

“See links below.  A lot of kids will have a fair bit to do this weekend to keep up.  I am only expecting up to step 2 to be complete by Tuesday (Oct 24).  They will have next week to work on step 3 and complete their maps.    The attached marking rubric may be helpful for parents as well, as this is what i’ll be using to assess the final product.”

Hello Parents and Students,

A few important notices will be coming home today related to the Young Entrepreneurs project. Please take the opportunity to read over the handouts as a family so everyone has an understanding of what is to come… I am so excited!!!… but students please do not work ahead in your workbooks 🙂

Below there appears to be a lot of homework. But parents please remember, I always provided plenty of class time to either finish or closely finish class work. Nevertheless, students should always be in a routine of doing something academic at home (e.g. checking over completed work, IXL, discussing concepts with family, etc.)…. please do not buy the excuse, “I finished everything at school.”  😉

Have a wonderful evening 🙂

Mr. Meyer

Hello Parents and Students,

Today we continued to work through our Number Sense chapter in math. In particular, we focused on Expanded Form.

In the morning we had speeches from those interested in running for Division 3 student council representatives. I was proud of the numerous students who demonstrated an interest and a commitment to helping our school. Well done to those courageous candidates and congratulations to our 3 representatives and 1 alternate. For those that did not make it this round, we will have a second student council vote in the Spring where 2-3 new representatives will be elected 🙂

Finally, we continued reading through “Because of Mr. Terupt.” The students are really enjoying the read-aloud book and the issues that are surfacing from the pages. A great book that offers many teaching moments for me in class.

Have a wonderful evening!

It is Friday… and the sun is starting to shine 🙂

Today we connected with our buddy class for the second time this year. Parents, I am extremely proud of the class and how they are so kind and helpful to Mrs. Cockburn’s grade 2/3 students… Well done division 3!!!

Not much homework this weekend. Students please remember that the final draft of your curiosity poem is due on Monday morning. Parents, you may enjoy reading their curiosity poem and offering some suggestions regarding word choice and background art. Thanks!

Grade 6’s please keep the Outdoor School forms and money coming in… we need to send that to Outdoor School ASAP.

Grade 6 parents, today there was a meeting about Outdoor School. Grade 6’s should be coming home with several forms that need to be completed and returned ASAP 🙂

Today we began our Number Sense unit in math. In particular, we looked at Place Value and Writing Numbers. In gym we continued with our basketball unit that we started last week. Today we worked on shooting skills.

Hello Parents and Students,

Today we had a presentation from Jessie Miller who talked to the students about issues related to social media and internet safety. A reminder to parents that Jessie Miller will also be providing a parent-talk tonight at Boundary from 6:30-7:30.

The Grade 6’s will be coming home with their math tests today (Grade 5’s will get their tests tomorrow). Parents, please review the tests with the students, sign the tests, and have the students return them to me by Friday. Thanks! As I mentioned yesterday, overall I was pleased with the scores 🙂 Any students who received a score of a C+ or lower can complete corrections by Monday and I will boost their mark by 1/2 a letter grade.

Finally, in the afternoon, I showed the class the latest trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. After the trailer, I told the students my Star Wars theory (spelling word)… I also explained what a theory is and how scientist go about proving a theory right or wrong (so connecting to science 😉 ).

Have a wonderful evening!

Hello Parents and Students,

Math tests are marked and will be coming home with students tomorrow. Overall I was pleased with the marks on this first test. I did warn students that this is one of the easier exams we will have this year. Nevertheless, I am happy to have such a strong start 🙂

Today we continued to work on our poetry unit/packages. Tomorrow a good copy of the Biography poem is due. Parents, please make sure your child has completed the poem (with art) by tomorrow morning. Thanks!

I hope everyone had a nice long weekend… enjoy your sunny(wish) evening!
