January 23, 2017

Hello Parents and Students,

A reminder that this Wednesday, January 25, the students will be dismissed at 2:00 for staff collaboration 🙂

Today we watched the documentary, “March of the Penguins.” I asked the students to pay attention to the physical and behavioural adaptations that the penguins have/made to survive the extreme environment of Antarctica. This information may help with an activity that we will start this week around the notion of survival in extreme places. Take the opportunity tonight to talk with your child about the video… the life of the penguin in Antarctica is quite fascinating!

This week we will be finishing a persuasive letter that the students have been writing in Language Arts (connected to the Hatchet novels). Also in Language Arts we will continue to look at grammar concepts such as capitalization and comma rules. In social studies we will continue to look at governments and “good governance.” The timing of this topic is perfect given the government change-over in The United States.

Finally, in math we will begin to learn about decimals and how they are connected to fractions, ratios, and percent… and, in gym we are beginning our Volleyball unit 🙂

Have a wonderful evening!

Mr. Meyer
