October 27, 2016

Hello Parents and Students,

My apologies for not posting information/homework on my website over the last several days. As many of you probably heard, I had a bacterial infection in my knee over the last week which result in an emergency room visit and a great deal of pain. I am happy to say that the antibiotics appear to be working as the swelling, redness, and pain is starting to subside.

So, here are some things that we are working on over the next 2 weeks…

Math – I have postponed the math test to Wednesday, November 2, 2016. Please look at the “Test” link for study pages and topics. That information has been posted for several days so students should already be preparing 😉

Science – We are just finishing our work on Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion. At the end of next week we will have a small quiz on the topic. Please help your child review vocabulary (e.g. inertia, acceleration, friction, etc.) as well as review the 3 laws themselves (and be ready to provide examples).

In science we are also starting our first “Project of Interest.” Today we talked about topics, expectations, etc. in class. I also gave the students an introduction sheet and a proposal sheet for them to read. Those sheets are posted in the “Projects” section of the website for you to view.

Social Studies – We will continue to look at the role of media in the world and in our lives. In particular, we will look at stereotypes and how they are often used negatively by the media (e.g. aboriginal stereotypes).

Language Arts – Next week we might begin a Business Letter project… I will see how busy we feel 😉 And of course, Language Arts is a subject that crosses the curriculum and is connected to science, social studies, etc.

Art – This week will begin Grid Art… the students love it 🙂

Gym – Basketball and other skills

Applied Design, Skills and Technologies/Career Education – Young Entrepreneurs PowerPlay Project. This week our focus will be on Market Research and Business Operations.

Wow… that is a lot of information! However, my hope is that the information is useful and give you a glimpse of what we are doing and how you might be able to help your child.

Have a wonderful day!

Mr. Meyer
